Dear parents,

We just finished two weeks of Open Classes with overwhelming support by our wonderful parents. It was a fun few weeks and it was great visiting classrooms and seeing parents and children joining the daily activities together. This year for K1 & K2 we included the weekly library and bicycle lessons in the open day and we hope to show parents different parts of their children's daily schedule throughout the coming years. It was also the first time that we demonstrated two weeks of food, according to the monthly menu, and invited parents to try the daily fruits, infused waters, milk, juices, salad bar, cheeses and dishes. Several parents asked if our chef could host a cooking class for parents and show how to cook a typical Italian dish, like "lasagna". Therefore, we kindly advise any parents or grandparents who wish to learn to make "lasagna" at campus, to inform your teachers. Maximum 10 persons can join the cooking class and it will take place on Thursday, May 16th at 14:45.

On April 29th, we started the new month's menu. Since the menu items are new and photos of the foods are being taken on the actual day, they will not be displayed on the TV in the morning, but in the afternoon only for the coming two weeks, until it repeats itself for the last two weeks.

The last year(s) we have been making big strides in creating a healthy, vastly varied, high quality educational menu and setting a standard in how the teachers serve and present the foods in the classroom. Before lunch, children are introduced to the daily menu and we break down the ingredients and raw products used to make it, we talk about nationalities and regions and always give thanks to the farmer for raising the animals, growing the vegetables and thank the chef for cooking our food. Whenever suitable, K1 and K2 children will wash their hands and help to make their own e.g. sandwiches, burgers or Korean bibimbap. However, we always keep improving and what we are very interested in is receiving  recipes from parents that we can test and try at school.

Last month we sent out program surveys to random parents in each class. The surveys help us evaluate the program and guide it towards the future. In the K2 classes we asked all parents for their input and advice in including more family assignments at home throughout the year, in preparation for our students proceeding to primary school and helping families to establish routines that will benefit the coming transition. Out of 108 surveys returned to me, 81 indicate support of more family assignments and 102 support K2 students doing friendship visits in other classrooms to prepare them for the transition to their new school after summer. This week we are working together with the K2 teachers to plan the implementation of these initiatives.

At campus we have opened our Zen style "Living Art" garden on the B-level, where K1 & K2 children can use rakes and tools to shape the sand into waves, circles and zig-zags. The best place to view it is from outside class N-104 on the hallway, where there is a display window allowing you to get a good look.

Finally, I kindly remind parents that we will be closed for Labor Day on May 1st, but welcome everyone back on Thursday, May 2nd according to the published calendar. For those who have taken the opportunity to have a little trip with your families, we wish you an amazing time and hope you make many wonderful memories.
