The world holds countless secrets; it’s natural for children to be curious about this planet that we call home. This year, we selected five countries from five different continents to explore on campus. During the one-week multicultural experience, our students transformed into little adventurers, traveling to New Zealand's green islands, South Africa's savannas, Germany's forests, Brazil's beaches, and India's festivals. We experienced five distinctly different cultural atmospheres, embarking on a wonderful journey of world culture exploration!
Vibrant India - The Celebrators of Holi Festival
\Namaste! Our journey of cultural exploration has brought us to beautiful India.
The traditional Hindu festival of Holi is not only a celebration of colors, love, and spring but also a symbol of embracing diversity in life. Seizing this educational opportunity, we led our students to the India experience zone to simulate a Holi celebration. Everyone got involved in making sarees, garlands, and wrist bangles. Everyone danced to the rhythm of the traditional music and tossed colorful confetti, embodying the spirit of Holi. Our students were immersed in the joy and uniqueness of Indian culture while fostering an understanding and appreciation of diverse cultural backgrounds.
In addition to learning about Holi Festival, our K2 students worked together to recreate the iconic Taj Mahal, expressing interest and excitement in learning about India’s most famous architecture!
Diverse New Zealand - The Brave Māori Warriors
Kia ora! New Zealand, known as a land of great contrasts and diversity, was magically brought into our campus by our teachers.
In the New Zealand experience zone, students from nursery and pre-nursery were engrossed in milking cows and searching for a Kiwi bird. The K1 and K2 students were thrilled to start making Māori totem masks and crafting Māori skirts. In their homemade attire, they transformed into brave Māori warriors. Each mask and skirt were unique, just as each of us is a special presence in this world. Guided by their teachers, students learned the traditional Haka dance, and with arms open wide, they imitated the warriors the best they could. After exploring the unique landscapes of the geothermal park, the K2 students conducted a volcano experiment to understand the geothermal phenomena of the thermal parks. This exploration and practice satisfied their curiosity and furthered their understanding of the world’s geographical diversity!
Passionate Brazil - The Little Samba Dancers
Olá! When we think of Brazil, images of lush tropical rainforests and the exuberant Carnival immediately come to mind.
In the Brazilian experience zone, with lively music playing, children donned colorful garlands and took part in a samba carnival. They jumped and moved their feet in step, thoroughly enjoying the sunshine and music and dancing with passion.
And what would a Brazilian experience be without football? The sun was out, and the weather was perfect for a fun and intense football match. The players worked together to dribble and cross obstacles, and even the pre-nursery children tried their feet at kicking and scoring goals. Everyone, brimming with enthusiasm, experienced the Brazilian people's love for football!
Colorful South Africa - The Explorers of the Rainbow Nation
Sawubona! Our wonderful journey has reached the rainbow nation of South Africa.
In the South African experience zone, children danced to the powerful beats and lively rhythms of African drums as if they were joyously jumping with lions and elephants on the savannah. They used their favorite colors to paint unique geometric tribal necklaces, expressing their love for South African culture. The pre-nursery and nursery children went mining in the sandpits for platinum and other precious metals. The excitement on each child’s face when they discovered a diamond or crystal was indescribable.
Through lively stories and performances, children felt the harmony of the people with different skin colors and cultural backgrounds coexisting in this "rainbow nation." They experienced the beauty of a diverse and inclusive world, inspiring aspirations for equality and a harmonious society!
Magical Germany - The Fairy Tale's Enchanted Protagonists
Guten Tag! Sweet bread, bubbling beer, delicious sausages... Our journey of exploration was drawn by the aromas of the magical German experience zone.
Through the world of Grimm's fairy tales, every child had the opportunity to imagine themselves as the protagonist of a story, becoming a brave little hunter or turning into a clever princess.
Using Papierfalten (the art of paper folding) and decorations, children crafted distinctive Bavarian hats, characteristic of Germany. Wearing their self-made hats, they danced gracefully to classical German music.
Through reading Grimm's fairy tales, making German snacks, and experiencing traditional German puppet shows, children felt as though they had stepped into a fairy tale world filled with magic and adventure.
Taste the World - Unlocking a Diverse World Through Taste Buds
During the week-long Festival of Colors, our kitchen team presented our students with an exclusive international feast: Indian ghee roti, New Zealand grilled lamb chops, Brazilian barbecue, South African milk tart... Incorporating unique culinary cultures of the five countries into children's meals, creating an experiential feast of flavors. They learned about diverse food cultures around the world, which ignited their interest in trying different cuisines and fostered an open mindset and a global perspective!
Achieving Growth – Witness Progress with Unique Coompanionship
When Festival of Colors coincided with the K1&K2 Parent Open Day, children and their parents embarked on a journey on campus. The Open Day event was a great opportunity for parents to have a window into their child’s life, habits, and development of both Chinese and English at school.
Through a variety of parent-child activities, from fun games and crafts to immersive experiences, they had a journey of exploring these countries together. Parents' involvement with their children not only enhanced the emotional bond between them but also gave them the opportunity to witness their child’s growth!
The week passed by quickly, and our young adventurers not only journeyed across five distinct countries but, more significantly, learned to look at this diverse world with eyes filled with appreciation and respect. Every adventure has expanded their minds, and every experience has made them fall even more in love with this world. Together, let's extend a warm "Hello" to the world!
