Reunion·A Happy Start to the New Semester
The Newton campus is a warm and welcoming place, especially during Lantern Festival when the air is filled with sweetness and joy. Our students couldn't wait to return and reunite with their friends, enjoying the exciting and diverse range of activities available. With interesting games that were both familiar and refreshing, the first day of school felt like a celebration, similar to the vibrant Lantern Festival with its different flavors. This joyful gathering set the stage for a hopeful journey of learning and growth for the new semester. Reunite and Celebrate: A Fun Lantern Festival
When the new semester coincided with Lantern Festival, on a campus that was still filled with the festive spirit of the Chinese New Year, we gathered at Newton to celebrate the Lantern Festival in a lively way. We opened up the joy and celebration of the Lantern Festival in colorful ways to have a small reunion and enjoy the festivities together.
The Hidden Joys of Lantern Festival
Children celebrated the colorful and joyous Lantern Festival by engaging in various festive activities. They made Tangyuan, fished for Tangyuan, and rolled Tangyuan as some of the popular traditions that they followed. The little ones in pre-nursery used air clay to create cute Tangyuan, and when they added eyes it was as if adorable Lantern Festival elves magically appeared on paper. In another activity, our Nursery students participated in an exciting game of fishing for Tangyuan. They overcame several obstacles and tried to "catch"
the Tangyuan from a giant bowl. They then transported the Tangyuan home, feeling happy and excited about Lantern Festival.
There are differences in the customs of the Lantern Festival between the north and the south. The north "rolls" Tangyuan, while the south "makes" Tangyuan. Our K1 students transformed into "little northern chefs" and tried to "roll" Tangyuan. Amidst the sound of New Year music, their little dumplings got bigger and bigger. The lively scene was filled with expectations for the New Year.
Lanterns Lit with Joy
The Lantern Festival is a cherished tradition that celebrates hope and new beginnings. Among the many festivities, lantern viewing is a popular and beloved activity. The brightly-lit lanterns are a symbol of optimism and people's aspirations for the future. The festival offers a variety of ways to engage in the joy of the new year, such as hanging, lighting, and sending lanterns. Children and teachers alike participated in crafts and games to commemorate the occasion and bask in the spirit of the festival that unites communities across the world.
Lets Kick Off the Year of the Dragon With Joy
In China, the "Dragon" is a symbol of mystery and represents good luck and the pursuit of a better life. As the Year of the Dragon begins, we can find so many ways to interact with dragons. They made hanging ornaments to represent the dragon, went on a scavenger hunt to search for the dragon, and performed dragon and lion dances to the beat of the drum. Additionally, they picked hydrangeas to bring good luck and fulfill their dreams for the new year.
The lively New Year season has come to an end marked by the Lantern Festival, and the Year of the Dragon has just begun with great hope. Wishing everyone in our Newton family a wonderful semester of growth filled with joy and happiness!
